As we have turned the corner into 2021, there seems to be a small light at the end of this COVID pandemic tunnel. 2020 brought many changes due to the pandemic whether it was with your lifestyle, social circle, family members or concerns of health. All of these changes and more have certainly affected most people’s mental health. Making a few resolutions, focusing on some lifestyle changes, and seeking mental health treatment can help overcome many mental health problems.

Resolution 1 – Sleep! It is important and almost necessary to get 8 hours of sleep per night. Getting good sleep is a resolution that should be fulfilled completely this year. Having complete sleep is a domino effect that promotes good health all around, physically and mentally.

Resolution 2 – Eat better, Exercise MORE. Having good physical health increases confidence which in turn helps positive mental health perspectives. It is important to exercise regularly and be more aware of the food entering your body. A healthy diet containing good nutrients helps keep the body energized and fit. Regular exercise brings out endorphins and makes us feel happy.

Resolution 3 – Self Love. Ask yourself this question – what does it mean to care for myself? Answer those questions and do those things! Whether it’s taking a bath, reading, playing music, cooking, or walking your dog, self-care is crucial for mental wellness. Caring for yourself, achieving balance, and lowering anxiety and stress levels all increase self-love. Self-love should make your life more fulfilling and nurture your mental health.

Resolution 4 – Accept Change. What we have learned in 2020 is that most normal things like work and socializing have drastically changed. Businesses, companies, careers, family habits, the education system etc. all had to adjust due to the pandemic. In previous years we focus on what we want to change within our normalcy. 2021’s resolution should be about adapting and accepting change and letting go of expectations.
